Equality Statement

Warrender School is a community in which we value the unique qualities of each individual, and where we all – staff, children, families and governors – work together to achieve the best for our school. At Warrender School, we aim to promote equality and tackle any form of discrimination and actively promote harmonious relations in all areas of school life. We seek to remove any barriers to access, participation, progression, attainment and achievement, and we take seriously our role in promoting community cohesion.

We aim to:

  • Provide a secure environment in which all our children can flourish and achieve, be healthy, stay safe and make a positive contribution to the school and the community
  • Provide a learning environment where all individuals see themselves reflected and feel a sense of belonging
  • Prepare children for life in a diverse society in which children are able to see their place in the local, regional, national and international community
  • Include and value the contribution of all families to our understanding of equality and diversity
  • Provide positive information about different groups of people regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age
  • Constantly improve our understanding and promotion of diversity
  • Actively challenge discrimination and disadvantage
  • Make inclusion a thread which runs through all our activities

The Equality Act 2010 requires the school to publish information that demonstrates that we have due regard for the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

The Equality Act 2010 introduced a single, general duty for public bodies, including schools, and which extends to all ‘protected characteristics. These are; age, disability, gender, race, religion, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, sex and sexual orientation.

As a public organisation, we are required to:

  • Publish information to demonstrate how we are complying with the Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Prepare and publish equality objectives which are specific and measurable
  • Update published information annually and to publish objectives at least once every four years
